3 Logical Fallacies That Can Change The World

Logical fallacies have many different uses.  They can be used to prove a point or diverge from a point.  I have found 3 of my favorite logical fallacies and examples to go with them.  All of these fallacies are effective and are obvious fallacies after they have been pointed out.

The slippery slope fallacy can be found in this Dodge commercial, they are claiming that a vehicle that has a hands free feature leads to the vehicle parking itself which will lead to an “unmanned vehicle driven by a search engine company” which will lead to “robots harvesting our bodies for energy”.  They are suggesting that the hands free feature will lead to robots eating human bodies.  This is a progression of negative consequences.  It is not logical to think that the feature will lead to robots.
The progression stated in the commercial is as followed:
Hands free to Cars that park themselves to unmanned car driving by a search engine company to robots harvesting our bodies for energy
I found a red herring fallacy in a political ad campaign for his election for presidency.  The ad begins by claiming that McCain does not understand how the economy of the United States should be.  The ad shows him speaking about economy but also shows house with foreclosures signs.  The ad then takes a turn from the economy to how many houses McCain owns.  A red herring is when someone goes off topic and presents a different issue.  That has happened here.  The topic starts with the nation’s economy but then diverts to the number of houses McCain has.
This bandwagon fallacy I found in this short clip from the movie Billy Madison is my absolute favorite.  Billy Madison is telling the students that everyone his age pees their pants.  He suggests to the children that if they want to be cool like he and his friends that they should pee their pants as well.  Billy Madison was trying to get the children on board by telling them that the cool people their age to pee their pants so they should too.
